Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia’s judicial custody has been extended by 14 days by a special court in Mohali. Majithia, arrested in connection with disproportionate assets and alleged drug money laundering of Rs 540 crore, was produced in the court through video conferencing.
After hearing the arguments of the prosecution and Majithia’s lawyers during the hearing, the court decided to extend his custody till August 16, 2025. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has accused Majithia of money laundering through benami properties and shell companies. The investigating agency claims that they have new evidence, on the basis of which raids and investigation are continuing.
Majithia was arrested on June 26, 2025 and is currently lodged in New Nabha Jail in Patiala. Majithia has termed these allegations as political vendetta and said that this is the result of his criticism by the current government. The hearing on his bail plea is pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the next date of which has been fixed for August 26.
