Khalistan supporter and independent MP from Khadoor Sahib Amritpal Singh’s party Akali Dal Waris Punjab De will field its candidate in the by-election to be held in Tarn Taran. This information was given by Amritpal Singh’s father Tarsem Singh while talking to the media. It is worth noting that Amritpal Singh had won from Khadoor Sahib in 2024 and Tarn Taran is a part of this Lok Sabha seat.
Amritpal Singh’s father Tarsem Singh reached Gurdwara Sahib in village Jallupur Kheda with supporters on Tuesday. Where he shared the information about fielding the party’s candidate in the by-election. Tarsem Singh said that Akali Dal Waris Punjab De had earlier decided not to contest the by-election. In all the by-elections held before this, the party did not field its candidate in any of them. But, this assembly seat comes under the Lok Sabha constituency Khadoor Sahib, from where Amritpal Singh himself is an MP.
Tarsem Singh said that after the seat became vacant, Amritpal Singh’s supporters and intellectuals have inspired the party to field a candidate for this by-election. At present, the party has not selected this candidate. But, the name of the party candidate will be announced in the coming days. Not only this, the party will also start campaigning in the area soon.
The MLA seat of Tarn Taran has fallen vacant after the death of Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal. Sohal breathed his last on 27 June 2025 in a private hospital in Amritsar due to cancer. He was 66 years old. He became an MLA for the first time in the 2022 elections. After his death, a by-election is expected to be held on this seat within 6 months.
