Amidst the power crisis in Punjab, Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Saund has claimed that there will be no power cuts in any sector in the state after September 13th. He stated that all power plants in Punjab have been repaired and made operational. More than 200 Powercom officers and employees worked day and night to achieve this.
According to the minister, uninterrupted power is now being provided to all four sectors: domestic, commercial, industrial, and agricultural. The agricultural sector previously received eight hours of electricity daily, which has now been increased to 10 hours daily. This is intended to provide adequate irrigation for the paddy crop.
Demand 3500 MW higher than last year
Saund stated that Punjab’s power demand in September this year was approximately 3500 MW higher than in previous years. Despite this, Powercom is generating electricity at its maximum level from all available sources.
However, power demand in the state continues to exceed 16,000 megawatts. While power generation has increased compared to the past few days, demand has not decreased as expected. Consequently, the government and Powercom continue to face challenges regarding power supply.
Industry and farmers have expressed displeasure
Punjab’s industrial sector has consistently expressed concern about power outages.
