A serious allegation has once again been leveled against government functioning. The incident is said to be related to Tarn Taran district. It has been learned that during rehearsals for the district-level Independence Day celebrations, 10 students suddenly fell ill while practicing physical training in the scorching heat on Wednesday. The affected students include eight female students from Government High School, Daleke, one female student from Shri Guru Arjun Dev Girls School, Tarn Taran, and one female student. All were immediately rushed to Civil Hospital, Tarn Taran, where doctors treated them. After treatment, all were discharged from the hospital.
According to reports, students have been rehearsing various presentations and physical training for the district-level Independence Day celebrations for the past several days. On Wednesday, during a physical training session in the scorching heat, several female students suddenly fell ill and collapsed on the field. Teachers and other administrators present at the scene immediately responded to the situation and rushed the affected individuals to the Civil Hospital for treatment.
Questions raised about making children participate in physical training in the heat
Following the incident, questions have been raised about the safety and health arrangements for students during Independence Day celebration rehearsals. Before engaging children in physical training or other physical activities for extended periods in such extreme heat, it is essential to ensure access to drinking water, shade, rest, and immediate medical attention.
Parents say that special arrangements should be made to prioritize children’s health during rehearsals. Immediate medical assistance should be available in case any child suddenly becomes ill on the field.
Questions also raised about a non-student participating in the rehearsal
The fact that a non-student participated in the rehearsal has raised another question. Clarification is needed regarding who can participate in the rehearsal of a district-level government function and at what level permission was granted for the participation of a non-student.
It is also a matter of investigation as to which official or organizer authorized the non-student’s participation in the rehearsal and who was responsible for her safety. If there are any prescribed rules or special permissions in this regard, the administration should clarify whether they were followed.
Demand for Review of Rehearsal Arrangements
Although all those affected have been discharged from the hospital after treatment, the incident has certainly highlighted the need for a review of the security arrangements made during the rehearsal. Parents and the public demand that the district administration take serious cognizance of the incident and review the arrangements made for the health and safety of the students during the rehearsal.
The main question now is whether adequate water, shade, rest, and medical facilities were available for the children during the PT rehearsal in the scorching heat, and whether the non-students were allowed to participate in the rehearsal in accordance with the rules.
