Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin planted trees at the BRICS Summit using a hoe made by Gurnam Singh Ramgarhia, a mechanic from Mandi Bareta, Mansa. The special thing is that this hoe wasn’t from a company, but was handmade by Gurnam Singh, who runs a small shop in Bareta.

50-year-old Gurnam Singh has been making agricultural tools for three generations. His grandfather and father also worked in the same field. Gurnam primarily makes beautiful tools from wood and brass, which are sold as far as Delhi. He said that the use of his hoe at the summit is a great recognition of his years of hard work.

Gurnam Singh’s 23-year-old son, Jatin, created the GS Agriculture Fabrication Works page on Instagram in January. He posted videos of his father’s tools. After seeing the videos, the BRICS Summit team contacted him and ordered the first two samples. After they were liked, an order was placed for 11 spades to be made by September 8th. Despite the short timeframe, the family completed the order and shipped it.

Gurnam explained that each spade costs around two thousand rupees. It features molding, carving, and woodwork. Jatin explained that after the spade became popular, he is receiving orders from India and abroad. It is a matter of pride for him that the spade, made from Beretta clay, has reached the hands of Modi, Xi, and Putin.###USA###UK###CANADA###RUSSIA###CHINNA###AUSTRALIA###NEWZEALAND####PM-MODI###PUNJAB###MANSA###CHANDIGARH###SINGAPORE###
