Vido Bibi (62), sitting with her family in Pojoke Utaar village, located about a kilometer from the India-Pakistan border, has been waiting for her husband to return from Pakistan for the last 34 years. She says that her husband went to Pakistan for the sake of the country, and has not returned yet. We don’t even know if he is alive or not. Now the victim has demanded from the Indian and Pakistani governments that some information be provided about her husband Mahinder Singh.
Victim Vido Bibi says that an officer of a security agency had sent her husband Mahinder Singh to Pakistan around the year 1990. At present, her husband would be around 65 years old. When her husband did not return from Pakistan for 2 years, an officer of the security agency gave her a check of Rs 20,000. After this, she was not given any help. She does not even know in which jail of Pakistan her husband is lodged. When he went to Pakistan, his 4 children were very young.
These include Karnail Singh, Satpal Singh, Baljinder Singh and Baggu. Out of these, Satpal has died. Vido Bibi told that when her husband did not return from Pakistan, she went to her maternal home Jalalabad from village Pojoke Utaar with the children. There, she raised the children. Then she returned to Pojoke Utaar in the hope that her husband would not reach the village searching for her.
Other families are also waiting
The village’s female Sarpanch Rano and Karnail Singh say that the previous Sarpanchs did not make any effort to search for Mahinder Singh, but they will send a letter to the central government and request for Mahinder’s search. Vido Bibi is illiterate and is unaware of the legal proceedings related to the search for her husband. There are 3 such families in this village, whose members have gone to Pakistan and have not returned. No trace of them has been found till date.
