Two army soldiers of Punjab have sacrificed their lives in a terrorist encounter in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The bodies of both the soldiers reached their village on Sunday. As soon as the body of soldier Preetpal Singh (29) of Manupur village of Ludhiana district reached home, the atmosphere was sad. The family members were inconsolable. Everyone’s heart was broken by the screams of his wife and mother. At the same time, brother Manpreet Singh was also unable to control himself. Manpreet is also shocked by the departure of his brother. He was crying while hugging the picture of brother Preetpal in the army vehicle. People took care of the family members. After this, Preetpal Singh was cremated in the village crematorium with military honors.

The entire village echoed with slogans of Preetpal Amar Rahe. Hundreds of people had already started gathering to bid him a final farewell. People say that even though this brave son of Manupur is not among us today, his martyrdom will always give the message of service to the country to the coming generations.

On this occasion, Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Samrala constituency Jagtar Singh Dayalpura, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Samrala Rajneesh Arora and SP (Headquarters) Khanna Tejveer Singh Hundal from the district administration paid tribute to the martyr. Apart from this, BDPO Samrala Lakhwinder Kaur, Naib Tehsildar Rajesh Ahuja and many senior officers of the Indian Army were also present.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rajneesh Arora met the wife of martyr Preetpal, Manpreet Kaur, father Harbans Singh, mother and brothers and expressed condolences. He said that the Punjab government and the district administration will always be ready to help the family. Martyrs are not limited to any religion, caste or region, they are the pride of the entire community, inspiration for the coming generations and an invaluable heritage of the country. It is worth noting that Preetpal Singh had joined the Indian Army in the year 2015. His uncle and maternal uncle are also retired from the army.

The elders of the village say that Preetpal dreamed of joining the army since childhood. After completing his studies, he joined the army in 2015 and always kept duty above everything else. Even after marriage, he did not let his passion for serving the country diminish. His friends say that Preetpal was always cheerful, helpful and brave. Even while leaving for the operation, he encouraged his family members and said – Don’t worry, I will return soon.

As soon as the news of sacrifice reached the village, there was silence in the entire area. People of Manupur left every house and reached the martyr’s house. Family members, relatives and villagers all had moist eyes. Wife Manpreet Kaur was sitting silently, people cried seeing the mehendi on her hands and red bangles. There was only one discussion in the village that our son sacrificed his life for the country. Preetpal Singh’s body will reach Manupur on Sunday where the last rites will be performed with military honours. Preparations for the martyr’s last journey have begun in the village. Hundreds of people have started gathering to bid him a final farewell. This brave son of Manupur may not be among us today, but his martyrdom will always give the message of service to the country to the coming generations.

The families of Lance Naik Preetpal Singh of Manupur village and soldier Harminder Singh of Badinpur village of Mandi Gobindgarh, who sacrificed their lives during an encounter with terrorists in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, will be given a financial assistance of Rs 1 crore each by the Punjab government. Everyone is saluting the spirit and bravery of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the protection of the country. As per the government’s promise, their families will be given an honorarium of Rs 1 crore each.
