The Congress sarpanch here was brutally murdered. It is being told that Baljit Singh (47) (Sarpanch) was hacked with sharp weapons. The case is being told of Sadarang village of Batala. Police has arrested Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakkha resident of village Sadarang on the charge of murder. The reason for the murder is said to be personal enmity over a land dispute.

Sukhwinder Kaur, wife of the deceased Baljit Singh, told in a statement to the police that her husband and their 8-year-old son had gone to someone’s birthday party in the village. Late Monday night when her son and husband were returning home from a party, some unidentified assailants attacked her husband with sharp weapons on the way and seriously injured him. His son reached home and informed him about the attack. When she reached the spot, her husband was lying in a pool of blood. In critical condition, her husband Baljit Singh was referred to Amritsar where the doctor declared him dead in the hospital.
