What will be revealed in the files?

After releasing the files, the government will have to clearly disclose certain information to the public. For example, it will be necessary to disclose which portions of the documents have been blacked out and why. It will also be necessary to explain what content was made public and what content was not released.

The government will also be required to provide a complete list of all government officials and politically influential individuals whose names or references appear in these files. This information must be made public within 15 days of the files’ release. It is not yet clear which documents will be made public and how many of them will be new. Thousands of documents related to Epstein’s sexual crimes have already been revealed over the past 20 years through civil lawsuits and Freedom of Information Act requests.

What has been released so far?

Many documents related to the Epstein case have already been released. These include documents from Maxwell’s 2021 criminal trial, Justice Department reports, and several civil lawsuits.Earlier this year, Trump-appointed officials in the Justice Department and FBI released some secret files related to Epstein, but much of the information in them was already public. The Trump administration faced severe criticism for this release.

This year, the Justice Department also released hundreds of pages of its controversial interview with Maxwell, in which she defended herself and even criticized some of the victims.Recently, on December 12th and 18th, Democratic members of the House Oversight Committee released numerous documents and photographs related to Epstein’s estate. These photographs also featured billionaire Bill Gates.

What is the full story of the Epstein case?

It began in 2005 when the mother of a 14-year-old girl in Florida filed a police complaint. She stated that her daughter was lured to Epstein’s luxurious home on the pretext of a “massage,” but upon arriving, she was pressured into sex. When she returned home and told her parents about this, they immediately filed a police complaint. This was the first official complaint filed against Jeffrey Epstein. During the police investigation, it emerged that this was not an isolated case.

Gradually, approximately 50 underage girls were identified who had made similar allegations against Epstein. The Palm Beach Police Department took the matter seriously and investigated for several months. Following this, a criminal investigation against Epstein began.

The investigation revealed that Epstein owned luxurious villas in Manhattan and Palm Beach. Epstein hosted high-profile parties there, attended by many prominent celebrities. Epstein used his private jet, the “Lolita Express,” to transport underage girls to parties. He coerced them with money and jewelry, and was coerced by threats. Epstein’s girlfriend and partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, assisted him in this.

Even after the initial investigation, however, Epstein did not serve long in prison. His influence was such that in 2008, he was sentenced to only 13 months, during which he could work outside the prison.

Epstein drowned in the wave of the Me Too movement

After his release from prison in 2009, Epstein maintained a low profile. Exactly eight years later, the Me Too movement began in the United States. In 2017, the American newspaper, The New York Times, published several reports against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

It was reported that Weinstein had sexually abused actresses, models, and employees for decades. This incident created a sensation worldwide. More than 80 women made Me Too (I was abused too) allegations against Weinstein on social media. These included prominent figures like Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Uma Thurman, and Ashley Judd. Subsequently, millions of women shared their stories of abuse by using the hashtag #MeToo on social media. This included a young woman named Virginia Griffey, who made several serious allegations against Epstein. She claimed she had been sexually abused for three years. Following this, nearly 80 women filed complaints against him.
