A 33-year-old youth committed suicide by jumping from a water tank. The deceased has been identified as Mantir Singh son of Gurnek Singh. The deceased youth was mentally ill.
According to the information received, he had gone to pay obeisance at Raja Saheb Mazara, a religious place in Nawanshahr, with his brother and father yesterday evening. There the youth got separated from his family and when the family members kept waiting for him to reach home till night. But he did not return home, they called him. Then the deceased Mantir Singh said that he would return home later.
He switched off his phone. This morning, when the youths going to the gym near the water tank saw the dead body of a person there, there was an atmosphere of panic in the village. The family members reached the spot and identified the body.
Police engaged in investigation
After the information, the police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. After which the police started investigating the matter. Police officials said that further action would be taken based on the statements of the family members.
