Many people died after drinking poisonous liquor in many villages of Majitha assembly constituency of Punjab. The figure is being told to be close to one and a half dozen. The condition of many is being told to be worrisome. The incident happened late on Monday night. This is the fourth big poisonous liquor tragedy in Punjab in three years.
Initial investigation has revealed that liquor was diluted to make 50 liters of methanol, that’s why the liquor became deadly. The links of this network are also being established to other states. Alleged criminals arrested
SSP Amritsar Maninder Singh said that last night at around 9:30 pm, information was received that people were dying after consuming spurious liquor. We immediately took action and detained four people. We have arrested the main supplier Parbjit Singh. We interrogated him and found out about the kingpin supplier Sahib Singh. We have also taken him into custody. We are investigating from which companies he has purchased this liquor. The accused have been identified as Kulbir Singh alias Jaggu (brother of main accused Prabhjit), Sahib Singh alias Sarai, resident of Mardi Kalan, Gurjant Singh, Ninder Kaur wife Jeeta. The death of 14 people has been confirmed and 6 people are currently admitted in the hospital. This incident happened in five villages.

According to the local people, the death toll may increase as many people are serious. Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni said that an unfortunate tragedy has happened in Majitha. We received reports from 5 villages that the condition of people who consumed liquor yesterday is serious. We sent our medical teams. Our medical teams are still going door to door. Whether people have some symptoms or not, we are taking them to the hospital so that we can save them. So far 14 people have died. The government is helping in every possible way. We are ensuring that this death toll does not increase… We have arrested the suppliers and further investigation is going on.
The bodies were sent for postmortem.
The police have started searching for the suspected liquor sellers. The administration has sent the bodies of the deceased for postmortem to confirm the cause of death. After the incident, political parties have also targeted the government and demanded strict action against the culprits and compensation to the victim families. The government has taken the matter seriously and ordered an investigation. Majithia and Pratap Singh Bajwa have blamed the Chief Minister and the state government for this tragic incident and have demanded their resignation.
