Chabbal Road, just before the urban edge of Amritsar, is currently grappling with the problem of garbage dumping. Around 25 colonies, with a population of around 50,000, range from middle-class to upper-class residents, reside around it. Of these, 2% have suffered from serious illnesses due to the garbage heaps. The number is particularly high among the elderly and children. It’s shameful that despite all this, the Municipal Corporation (Amritsar) remains completely silent. Or rather, it’s deliberately ignoring the problem. Furthermore, complaints have reached everyone from the highest officials to the lowest employees. Yet, the lack of action indicates that something fishy is amiss within the department.

The protest by the residents a few days ago proves that the residents are forced to live in hell. The repeated and complete disregard of public demands raises serious questions about the state government’s handling of these officials. This failure has also fueled significant anger among local residents. They say they believed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab would fulfill all their legitimate demands after coming to power. However, the failure to fulfill such a significant demand indicates that the government, like previous governments, has failed to fulfill them.

The Chief Minister of the state makes tall claims about honesty and development at every stage, but the truth is that these are all false. Their officials (officers, employees) refuse to listen to any of the public’s requests. They no longer fear the government in the slightest. They act as they please. Complaints are completely ignored. Furthermore, the digital portals the government has opened for complaint resolution are proving to be completely useless. No complaint is redressed.

Find out…when the problem originated

According to experts and residents involved in this issue, this problem is not new. It’s very old. Residents have raised it with the department and the government for many years. No solution has been found to date. However, this time, we are not going to sit quietly. We have united and vowed not to let our voices be silenced. Rather, we will continue our struggle until our demands are met. Nearly 50,000 people living in 25 colonies have joined this fight. Now, not everyone is going to give in to the department’s false assurances.

…Understand in the report… Who started the struggle first

This demand was first initiated by Manu Sharma, a resident of the city. He saw how the residents were forced to live a hellish life. He felt the garbage everywhere, the suffocation of the people, and declared war on this problem. He is receiving full support from the residents in this fight. Meetings are being held daily to address the issue. Recently, when Manu Sharma, along with the residents of the city, held a massive protest against the department demanding this, the administration promised to remove the garbage dumps from there soon. However, the department reneged on its promise, and the dumps remain there.

Broken Road, Smoke Distressing People

The road here is also in a dilapidated condition, making transportation difficult. Traffic often becomes a long traffic jam. This is also due to the presence of a railway crossing nearby. A proposal to build a bridge over it was passed, but construction has not yet begun. Experts believe that there are ongoing departmental technical issues, which are posing a significant obstacle to development. However, the residents of the surrounding area are quite distressed, and the department and the government have so far failed to address them.

…Find out, in this report… What age group fell ill?

According to a report, 2 percent of the total population living in these colonies has fallen ill. The reason is the smoke emanating from the garbage dumps and broken roads. This primarily includes the elderly and children under the age of three. They are suffering from respiratory problems, diarrhea, vomiting, and coughing. They are reportedly receiving treatment at various medical hospitals. They have been advised to avoid the filth and smoke.

City Residents Warn to Block Rail Roads.

The city residents sternly warned the government and the department that if the garbage piles are not removed soon, they will be forced to block rail roads. The administration and the government will be held responsible for any damage. They are now fed up, and they may have to resort to this method at any time. However, the solidarity of the city residents suggests that they will not give up their struggle until their demands are met.

CM Sir, your officials don’t even answer the phone… City Residents.

Regarding this serious issue, the city residents have repeatedly contacted municipal department employees and officials via phone. But, surprisingly, no one even answered his phone. Not only that, when a SNE News representative tried to contact everyone from the Municipal Commissioner to the Health Officer, no one answered the phone. Only a sanitary department official said over the phone that he was a low-level employee and couldn’t do anything about the issue. Perhaps a solution could be found on Monday. The senior officials in his department would know everything else. The matter is under their cognizance.
