Special DGP Prabodh Kumar, Chief of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the case of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s interview, is retiring on January 31. The Punjab government has started considering the names of senior officers of the department for the new chief of the SIT.

In fact, the Advocate General of Punjab has also lobbied in the High Court for the appointment of another senior officer as the new chief of the SIT. Senior officials of the Home Department and Police Department of the Punjab Government have started forming a panel of officers for the SIT Chief. In this, the names of three senior IPS level officers will be presented in the High Court on behalf of the Punjab Government. However, the Punjab-Haryana High Court seems to be in favor of retaining IPS Prabodh Kumar as the chief of the SIT.

In fact, in the interview case of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, the Punjab government first constituted an SIT under the chairmanship of ADGP Jail, this SIT of the government could not reach any concrete conclusion in this matter. After this, in December 2023, the High Court constituted an SIT under the leadership of Special DGP Prabodh Kumar of Punjab Police. In a year of investigation, the SIT of IPS Prabodh Kumar presented the evidence and facts before the High Court that the interview of gangster Lawrence was held in CIA Kharar jail. In view of the honesty of SIT Chief Prabodh Kumar, the High Court can extend his services.
