Efforts to persuade Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami have started once again. Just yesterday, the SGPC Working Committee had rejected Dhami’s resignation in a meeting. Along with this, it was said that efforts will be started to persuade him. After which today former Akali Dal President Sukhbir Badal is reaching Advocate Dhami’s house in Hoshiarpur to persuade him.
It is worth noting that the SGPC delegation also reached his house last evening to persuade Dhami. In which he had assured the SGPC members that he would consider his resignation. On the other hand, now Sukhbir Badal himself is reaching Hoshiarpur to persuade him.
Advocate Dhami had reached Amritsar on March 6. While talking to the media, he had made it clear that it is the right of the executive to accept or reject the resignation. But he is adamant on his point and will not withdraw his resignation. During this, he also met the then Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Raghbir Singh. But just two days after this meeting, Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh was relieved from the services of the Takht. After which there was also protest against the SGPC.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami suddenly resigned from his post last month. Dhami has told the reason behind this to be the post of Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Raghbir Singh had shared the post on February 13 after Harpreet Singh was removed from the post of Jathedar of Sri Damdama Sahib. At the same time, former Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has called this resignation unfortunate.
Dhami had said that on the day the decision to remove Giani Harpreet Singh was taken, 14 executive members were together and there was a discussion for one and a half hour. Everyone was given time to speak for one and a half hours, so that no one’s opinion is left out, but the head is the mouth. Therefore, morally I resign from this post. May Guru Sahib bless. He said that SGPC is the managerial body of Sikhs and Sri Akal Takht Sahib is the head (high) Takht of Sikhs. Shiromani Akali Dal is also an organization of this Takht.
