For the past few months, the salaries of grade 3 and 4 employees (casual, outsourcing) of the civil hospital have been pending. On Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock, 40 employees (male and female) sat on the floor, leaving their pens, with their legitimate demands. A protest was held against the state government. On the other hand, the hospital’s SMO was accused of taking appropriate action against the protesters, while, officially there was no denial of the matter. The SMO said that their demands are absolutely legitimate and the file related to the demands was sent to the Civil Surgeon’s office. The solution will come out in 1-2 days. The OPD was not affected much due to the strike, because, the hospital administration had already found a solution to the problems of the patients.
On Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock, the outsourcing employees decided to leave their pens and go on strike, when there were long queues of patients. At the same time, with the help of other staff, the solution to the problems of the patients was found and the work continued smoothly. Actually, the salary of the said employees has been pending for the last four months. Many times they reached the SMO office with their complaints, but not once was a solution found. Out of helplessness, everyone found a better solution to go on strike on Wednesday.
It is being told that before this all the employees reached the SMO’s office with a written letter. There was a long discussion between the two. The SMO assured them that their legitimate demand will be resolved in a few days. But, they decided to protest. It is being told that slogans were raised against the government. It was warned that if their demand is not met soon, then they will intensify their struggle.
The salary is so low that it is difficult to survive
It has been found out that this staff has been working under a private company on a temporary basis for a long time. The salary is only 10-12 thousand rupees per month. It is surprising that till now their salary has not been increased. The matter of making them permanent is far away. It is a matter of thinking that how do these people manage to run the house with such a low salary. Most of these cases are such in which there is only one earning member, while the breadwinners are 4-5. On top of this, withholding the salary for 4-4 months indicates that they are being exploited completely.
The government will also have to understand their helplessness
The Bhagwant Mann government of the state makes big claims and talks that it always stands with the government employees of Punjab. But, it seems that they are not able to see their helplessness. It is believed that the government may understand its helplessness in making them permanent, but, it can also reduce their problem by paying their salary on time. Experts also believe that some big mistake of the department comes to the fore in this, because, many times they fail to remove the technical dilemma, so the said employees have to bear the consequences. If this problem reaches the government, then along with getting resolved, big action can also be taken against the officials. Because, at this time the state government is not forgiving even the slightest mistake of the officials.
The demands are absolutely justified—SMO
Civil Hospital’s Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr. Dhawan said that the demands of the above employees are absolutely justified. I agree that their monthly salary is also very low. Actually, there was some technical mistake in the past, due to which the salary got delayed. The file was sent to the Civil Surgeon’s office. I hope that within a few days their salary will reach their account. There is absolutely no need for them to panic.
